The Brazilian election was a contest of competing visions, ideas and principles. Lula on the left. Flavio Bolsonaro Jr on the right. Two competing visions for a great Brazil. That is what political contest between gladiatorial ideologues ought to be. And that is how an informed enlightened electorate decide the future of their country. But when those seeking power push it because they hate the incumbent like H.E @WILLIAMSRUTO ornlove a competitor because of his tribe, the enterprise masquerading as change becomes one driven by bigotry, hatred and ethno chauvinism. How can one for example explain 7 million educated wealthy voters in Mt Kenya shouting in unison "onetam". What is the primeval glue that holds together those opposing Ruto's re-election other than vile ethnic hatred? By the way I have an open mind about 2027...but I'm certainly not a ng'ombe or Ngamia. I'm a rational voter that is open to persuasion, rational discourse and objective appraisal of the candidates. I certainly don't have a tribal dog in this contest. And I refuse to subscribe to a tribal philosophy solely grounded on ethnic bigotry and superiority ala Ratko Mladic that defines candidates according to their tribes and then hate or love them accordingly. It is sad that in 2026 some Kenyans refuse to get out of that old pit of yesterday and decide the future of their country not on the edicts of their tribal gods but on the basis a personal decision and choice informed by objective appraisal of relevant and germane facts.

Lessons from Brazil & Serbia Elections

Brazil has 130 million registered voters. They went to elect their President yesterday & the results were out immediately polls closed! No other country in the world does what Brazil does. President Lula, 80, was re-elected for record 4th time. His campaign recommitment is to end Corruption, Impunity & Militias (goons). And Lula kept his previous election promises.

In Serbia, university students formed only two months ago, its political party called Studentska lista (student List). The students in yesterday’s elections, defeated the party of strongman Vucic that was formed 18 years ago! There are indications the students will choose their university professor, Srdanovic to be the new leader of Serbia.

Therefore, winning elections isn’t about the age of the Party or of the Party’s Presidential candidate. It is, who resonates with the voters!

Prof Makau Mutua is totally shameless. He is truly unworthy of attention.
He campaigned for Raila Odinga, wrote that he would never work for William Ruto, then took a job as Ruto's advisor. Call it what you like. He backstabbed and betrayed Raila Odinga in life and in his death.
He chairs a panel for victims of police brutality, housed in the very Office of the President that rights groups say should not oversee it. The panel has been tied up in court, and families are still waiting for hearings and compensation. Money is lost.
A man who built his name on human rights now lends his name to a process victims don't trust.
So when he picks a fight with Edwin Sifuna, he is making a mistake he will regret. Sifuna is God’s and the people's choice. He doesn't compete with anyone on experience in flip-flopping, switching sides and selling out.

I see broadbased bloggers declaring, “I have lost all respect for Sifuna because he met Rigathi Gachagua.” Since when did you support Sifuna?

You support William Ruto, under whose administration young Kenyans were abducted, maimed and killed, yet you want us to believe that Sifuna meeting Gachagua is what offends your conscience?

When our young people were being brutalized, Gachagua who was the Deputy President held a press conference in Mombasa and publicly condemned what was happening. You cannot conveniently erase that while defending the administration under which those atrocities occurred.

I keep saying that the bell rang in 2024. That is where we drew the line. Wasn’t it Ruto who pushed the Finance Bill, while Gachagua opposed it? Who defended the brutality unleashed on our young people, and who spoke out against it?

Also, on the issue of Baba, does Gachagua even come close to Ruto in the attacks and insults directed at Baba, even as late as 2023, beyond the issue of kuweka mitego State House?

Spare us the selective outrage. You cannot support Ruto, who continues to defy our Constitution, the very thing Baba stood for, you cannot continue to support Ruto, whose administration has overseen the killing, maiming and abduction of Kenyans, while acting as though meeting Gachagua is an unforgivable offence.
