I think, we are essentially making the same argument in different ways.

-Yes, there are parts of Manusmriti which run contrary to feminist values in the present day.

-these are the very parts that have systematically been challenged and abandoned by Indian society and Hindu reformers down the years

-despite that, yes, the problem of conditioning/mindset stays

-this conditioning/mindset exists across communities. As a young lady said on my show yesterday, Why is Manusmriti easy to question, but Muslim personal law politically uncomfortable?

-regressive conditioning and patriarchal mindset should be called out across communities. A selective approach only results in people getting their backs up, and feeling targeted. No conversation and reform is possible when you put an entire community on the defensive.

-worse, it is a disservice to other women who will be equally repressed, but will find no one speaking for them because it’s politically unviable

Yes, I know this will not fit into comfortable boxes of with us or against us. But that is what is fair.
