Thermally treated pine is budget friendly but can not resist rot.
Hardwoods when used can become too hot and can burn skin.
The chosen wood must be kiln-dried and properly installed to allow for mov't in the sauna's high heat.
Select knot-free wood for seating to ensure comfort.

Heat rises: Prioritize the ceiling over walls.
Vapor barrier is critical: On the warm side to block moisture while reflecting radiant heat.

Sauna insulation traps heat to cut fuel use and heat-up time. Use 100-150mm rock wool in walls/ceiling, vapor barrier on warm side, foil for heat reflection. Insulate ceiling first, keep it low at 2.0-2.1m, and seal all gaps. Poor insulation wastes 40-50% of heat.

Sauna heaters: Take 12-20% of cost. Above 6kW needs 3-phase.
Steam boilers: 25-35% of cost, ∼2x stove price. Require auto-drain, timer, plumbing, and 3-phase above 6kW.
Both drive operating cost.

The material and gauge used (Mild Steel or Stainless Steel) contribute greatly to the life span and cost of the stove. The bigger the gauge, the longer the life of the heater. Stainless Steel is more expensive than Mild Steel.

Sauna costs: stove 12-20%, needs insulation, abachi/cedar finish, timber/brick/convert options. Steam costs 40-50% more: boiler 25-35%, full waterproofing, tiles, drain, 3-phase often. Fixed door/vent. Cost per m² drops with size.
