Today’s #sundayfishsketch is the blackside darter. It’s my FIRST block print! The blackside is unique because it has a partially developed swim bladder, which is absent in many other darter species. #scicomm
My #sundayfishsketch green fish is the banded darter. They live in riffles of rivers and streams that have filamentous algae and plants. They typically feed on insects, and are always ready for St. Patrick’s day! ☘️ #scicomm
My pink #SundayFishSketch is a Northern Cavefish. Their range is limited to Kentucky’s Mammoth Cave region, and their only pigmentation comes from blood near the gills. They have no eyes, but instead “see” via raised neuromasts across their head and body. #scicomm
Buffalo are native (US) species and can live for over 100 years.
Here’s a 70-pound female that won bowfishers “big fish” at a national tournament hosted @BassProShops. Note the puddle of eggs.
These fish aren’t eaten, at best ➡️landfill.

If you know me well, you know I get a lot of mileage out of tunes from @CharleyCrockett and @VNEofficial… big shoutout to these guys for making my whole weekend! 🤩
This week’s #SundayFishSketch is a bluegill! These guys are easily identified by their dark “ear”. During the summer, they will consume 3.2% of their body weight daily! #sciart
