The DC Circuit Court of Appeals has already scheduled oral arguments on January 9th.

They will rule shortly thereafter. His claim of immunity will be denied.

They will also lift the stay on trial proceedings, forcing him to appeal quickly.

The DOJ can/will respond immediately and waive the waiting period, pushing the appeal into conference.

SCOTUS will have strong rulings from both the district and appellate courts in hand.

Yes, some time will be lost. Not enough for him to slither out of a trial before the election.
