Environment Minister Catherine McKenna says a federal strategy on consumer plastics is coming in June, but she stopped short of committing to the types of bans other jurisdictions have introduced. https://t.co/0SfGPISkEW @lukedenne
Climate change is real. The warming we’ve observed is entirely human-caused.* Its impacts are serious, including making heat waves, wildfires, hurricanes, droughts and floods more severe and more dangerous.** But there are solutions and we can fix it.*** 💪🌱
A new report out of @cbuniversity digs into the social and health impacts of the Donkin Mine. You can find it here:https://t.co/bcLDJaNuSH.
I interviewed lead author and noise expert Sarah Barnes in Sept 2022 for this article:

Young people play a vital role in shaping the future of Canada’s net-zero economy. That’s why we’re investing $30M over the next two years to create 960 green jobs in the natural resources sector, including youth in remote and northern communities.

Clean energy critics often argue that addressing climate change will require too much mining.
So I looked into the data.
I found that our current fossil fuel economy requires 535x more mining than a 100% clean energy economy would.

This amazing figure from yesterday's #IPCC report shows the potential of different approaches to mitigate climate change
It exposes two common misconceptions about 'natural climate solutions'

Yesterday was world sleep day. Yesterday we heard back from our appeal sent to @TimothyHalman wrt the Donkin Mine & the sleep damaging noise from the fans. He decided to dismiss our appeal & in doing so has denied the 3.5 year lived experience of noise torture suffered by many!
“There are major concerns about the environmental approval process,” Ferguson said. “Three community groups requested community consultation,&all those requests were denied, despite the serious issues related to this mine.” @TimothyHalman https://t.co/hRQnv6Irhp
I spend a lot of time thinking about transformational change in the climate space: How to transform everything at scale now? So many women are pushing against the status quo & leading the way globally. But men are still running things. That needs to change. #WomenLeadingonClimate
"I don’t think people need to give up what they’re passionate about to tackle climate change. I think they need to figure out how to connect what they’re passionate about with the climate crisis. Because this is the work of our lifetimes." - @NaomiAKlein https://t.co/uKRfSndaeQ
This thread explains how arguing with people just hardens their denial ... but focusing on what we have in common and the benefits of climate action truly can change the hearts and minds of the 84% of us who are neither dismissive nor already activated. https://t.co/3TZQQQpFYX
Canadian COVID Forecast Feb 12-18, 2023
NOVA SCOTIA
SEVERE
About 1 in every 33 people is infected.
HOW TO HELP:
Mask, get your booster, avoid non-essential indoor public places, social gatherings.
Higher risk: also avoid outdoor social gatherings.
@nspowerinc This webpage tells the customer nothing about how much “clean and green energy” is being generated versus energy from “other” sources. I hope this information will again return to the website for Nova Scotians to monitor. @TimHoustonNS@ToryRushton
@DonnieCalabrese Would be interesting to see the absolute numbers for how many of CBU’s faculty fit into each classification relative to other institutions (and remember there are 2 teaching unions at CBU with very different teaching loads).
“……two separate requests for community consultation with regard to the Donkin Mine have been submitted to our provincial government. One was denied. One was ignored.” @TimHoustonNS @s_guilbeault @TimothyHalman https://t.co/k7AK8VZRXo
Two of the most common misconceptions I hear from people who want to inspire others to fix climate change: 1/ I need to make them care about X in order to care about climate change, and 2/ we need to fix X before we fix climate change. But we don't have time for either of these.
I often say there's five flavours of climate denial: it's not real, it's not us, it's not bad, it can't be fixed, and it's too late. Well, turns out that when you analyze everything out there, there are indeed 5! but the last one is a bit different. See: https://t.co/Bb67gxBqGl
This story from @CBSNews exposes the truth behind EU's "climate policy". This is what the EU's so-called "green" image is largely based on. And this deforestation is of course not only taking place in North America...
