Y’all gotta learn the difference between blood walking & crip walking or just walking that’s west coast shit it’s not meant for outsiders to get it anyway
First of all the “LA Sound” by mustard is technically a Bay Area (Northern California) sound. The hyphy movement created that sound and it’s been around since about 2002 or 2003.
Second the west coast sound did go worldwide. First in the 90’s with G-funk. Then in the early 2000’s with Dr. Dre’s 2001 album and Eminem’s Slim Shady LP with My Name Is and Guilty Conscience.
Then came 50 Cent with Get Rich or Die Trying. 50 Cent’s In The Club, 21 Questions, Heat, and Back Down were a west coast beats. One of the biggest critiques of 50 during that time is that he rapped over a lot of west coast production. That’s why when Jada dissed 50 he said, “I can’t really figure this clown out. Where is from? Jamaica queens, CALI, or down south?”
Many producers borrowed those heavy drums and that Dre-like production in the early 2000’s. I can name many east coast, Midwest, and southern records/artists that featured a west coast sound from Eminem, 50 Cent, Fabolous, to Scarface, Master P, and TI.
Kendrick is popularizing the current west coast sound, fasho. But we can’t also act like Drake’s sound or how he makes songs was the only thing being copied in the last 10 years when mustard’s influence was there the whole time even when trap music ruled the radio.
So both Ray and Hitmaka make good points but are off on other points.
I don’t get it… You’re burning the flag of the country that you illegally entered & want to stay in; but you’re waving the flag of the country that you fled from & don’t want to be deported back to… 🤔🤔🤔
