🔥 Utah remains in critical fire danger. Persistent drought and dry fuels have created above-normal wildfire potential. Recent fires show how quickly they can spread. Hot, dry conditions continue into July. Use your #FireSense & follow fire restrictions.
❄️ Almost July… and it’s SNOWING in Utah!
Take a look at this! Snow is falling this Sunday morning at Alta as a cold storm moves across northern Utah. The highest peaks of the Wasatch are picking up fresh snow, even though we’re just days away from July. 😍
A powerful cold front will sweep through Utah this weekend, and we're already seeing the first signs of its arrival. Strong winds are picking up across the state, while much colder air is pouring into Idaho and Nevada. In fact, Elko is running 31°F colder than this time yesterday. Buckle up—Utah's big cooldown is on the way. #utwx
Stage 2 Fire Restrictions are in effect across many areas of Utah due to increasing wildfire danger. Know Before You Go—restrictions vary by agency and do not apply within incorporated city limits. Check current orders and maps at https://t.co/nH9dSWSsEm. #FireSense. #Fire2026
A PDS Red Flag Warning is in effect Friday from 9 AM to midnight for portions of the Southwest Desert, Central & Southern Mountains including the #CottonwoodFire. This is a PARTICULARLY DANGEROUS SITUATION. Gusty winds & dry conditions will lead to very rapid fire growth. #utwx
The #BonnevilleFire has increased to 95% contained and is still 566 acres. Thanks to the hard work of the crews, there has been no growth of the fire over the last 24 hours.
An overnight infrared flight mapped and identified all the remaining heat sources around the fire. Only one was found along the perimeter. Most of the hot spots were interior, and crews were able to hike in today and continue to suppress these heat sources. The remaining portion of the perimeter uncontained may take another day or so to finalize containment. There is still interior fire and heat. Smoke will be visible. Please do not report.
Because of the continued heat within the fire (verified by the infrared flight), the Bonneville Shoreline, Red Butte, and Dry Gulch Trails will remained closed. City Creek Trail will open tomorrow, as there isn't a threat to that area. Rangers and law enforcement are patrolling the area to catch any trespassers.
Due to the progress, the fire will be turned back over to a local Type 4 team in the morning. Two crews and multiple engines will remain on scene until full containment, and awhile after to assure any interior hot spots are extinguished.
We continue to receive reports of people in and around the area of the active Bonneville Fire. This disrupts fire fighting efforts and puts us all in danger. Stay clear of active fires, do not fly drones near fires, do not drive into the area to watch firefighting efforts. @slcfire
Evening update for the #BonnevilleFire on 6‐23.
Still 566 acres and now 84% contained. Despite little-to-no movement on the perimeter, there are still pockets of internal heat. Crews responded to two areas today within the fire that started putting up flames and smoke.
As we increase containment, it's important to note that this only refers to the perimeter. It does not mean there isn't heat and fire within the interior of the fire. This is why the area and trails remain closed to the public. Not only to stay out of the firefighters way, but for their own safety to avoid hot pockets of fire. Multiple people were caught hiking in the area today, which is incredibly dangerous. Please stay out of the fire area until fire managers lift the closures.
As progress is made, the Northern Utah Type 3 team will start releasing and sharing resources with the other fires in the state in need. The map shows the area of containment.
Despite the smoke in the air along the Wasatch Front, crews on #BonnevilleFire are making great progress. A mapping flight estimated acreage at 566, but that has not yet been ground truthed by crews or GIS. The acreage and containment will be updated later today when calculated. Fire managers are confident we will see an increase in containment tonight.
The "Ready" status has been lifted for Arlington Hills and there are correctly no areas of any level of evacuations on this fire. Residents should continue to follow fire updates, but the threat to the community is minimal at this time.
The smoke in the air in the Salt Lake Valley is mostly from the #HastingsFire near Tooele. With the wind blowing east, the smoke from their firing operations is blowing towards Salt Lake. There has not been an increase in fire activity on the Bonneville Fire.
Crews brief this morning 6-22 on the #BonnevilleFire
The fire is 495 acres and 5% contained.
Yesterday crews made great progress hiking in around the fire. Air attack helped box in the fire perimeter, and is holding along much of the perimeter. Fire quieted overnight, as clouds and humidity moved into the area. While no rain fell, the moisture caused a decrease in fire behavior and night shift saw little activity throughout the evening.
Today will be a hot, dry with temperatures in the 90s and very low humidity. Once the sun hits the fire, it likely will pick up activity again with the heat. The winds will shift today, and become gusty in the afternoon. Firefighters will continue to secure and enhance the perimeter, working to increase containment. The terrain is rocky and steep, with hazards such as rolling debris and rattlesnakes.
The trails remain closed, and a Temporary Flight Restriction is still in place. We had one drone intrusion yesterday which grounded aircraft. This endangers pilots and leaves crews on the ground unsupported. If you fly, we can't.
Bonneville Fire Update - We will be resuming frequent updates tomorrow morning. Please continue to avoid the area and abide by the temporary flight restriction for the area. Thank you.
Update for the #BonnevilleFire east of Salt Lake City
The fire was mapped at 495 acres and is now 5% contained. Containment is mostly on the west portion of the fire. The Northern Utah Type 3 Incident Management Team is managing the fire and should be able to provide a map of the fire tomorrow. There was moderate fire behavior today, making small runs in the dry grass but slowing to a creep in the more dense vegetation (brush).
Arlington Hills area (11th Avenue to Tomahawk Drive) is under a “READY” status for evacuations, per @SLCFD. This does not mean there is an immediate threat, but is simply to help residents prepare in case the fire behavior increases in the direction of the community. Residents in this community, as well as other surrounding areas, should continue to stay informed of the status of the fire. Red Butte Gardens and the Utah Museum of Natural History are open, with cautions to visitors to stay alert to fire updates. There are currently no impacts to businesses on the U of U campus or nearby hospitals.
On the east side, the fire has crested the Van Cott peak, and is moving slowly down the mountain. Aerial resources provided fire retardant and water drops to slow the progress further into Red Butte and Dry Creek drainages. Firefighters are working diligently to keep the fire from progressing further east and keeping it away from Emigration Canyon, one of the largest Wildland Urban Interface (WUI) areas in the nation. There are currently no impacts at this time to the Canyon, but residents should continue to follow fire updates.
Due to the cooler temperatures settling in overnight, residents can expect to see smoke settle into the valley again tonight. This inversion usually lifts midmorning as it warms. Those with sensitive health conditions should take the necessary precautions. The increase in smoke does not necessarily mean an increase in fire behavior.
We ask that residents continue to avoid the area and trails. Law enforcement is patrolling the trail system, looking for violators and/or drones impeding the Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR). Today we had a drone intrusion. When unauthorized drones are present, firefighting helicopters and aircraft are forced to suspend operations, delay suppression efforts, and increasing the risk to both responders and the community.

As the Bonneville Fire progresses, there is a potential that some residents in the Arlington Hills area identified may need to evacuate. Out of an abundance of caution right now, we asked that the people who live in this area be prepared with what they need, should it eventually be necessary to leave your homes.
For more information on how to prepare our homes and families before and during an emergency, follow the Fire Department’s Ready, Set, Go Guide: https://t.co/wkbCdehC74
READY Status Issued for Arlington Hills (11th Avenue to Tomahawk Drive)
Due to wildfire activity in the area, residents of Arlington Hills are now under a READY evacuation status from the #BonnevilleFire.
“READY” EVACUATION NOTICE for #BonnevilleFire in Salt Lake City, UT
READY means THERE IS CURRENTLY NO IMMEDIATE THREAT, but conditions could change quickly. Residents should take steps now to prepare in case an evacuation becomes necessary.
For your information, if an evacuation becomes necessary, please refer to pages 8–12 of the Ready, Set, Go guide for guidance on how to prepare and what steps to take before and during an evacuation. Wildfires are rapidly changing, but we will update you with any new information.
Please stay out of the area of the Bonneville Fire. Crews from @slcfire and other agencies need space both on the ground and in the air to fight the fire.
Trails in the area are closed and roads should only be accessed by residents.
Do NOT fly drones anywhere near the fire.
Officers will be patrolling the area.
