@InPoetsShoes@Glazertwalker Where does it state this?
Of course all parents want the best for their children, surely. References to ind. parents striving to afford fees is not a dig at state school parents.
@kettering_red@CharlesHThyme I'm not sure who I'd vote for actually, but okay. All the same really it seems.
I can see that you are utterly blinded by the current government and their false promises and lies.
@alexhrbfc@PeterABedford@LBC Again, so fucking what? ๐คทโโ๏ธ
What about the 25% who aren't?
The policy disproportionately impacts those children, many with SEND needs, others on bursaries, all from poorer families striving or desperate.
Do they not matter because they are a 'minority?
Rich will be fine.
@kettering_red@CharlesHThyme There won't BE any spare cash as they'd have used any spare from the VAT to scrape a home in an exclusive catchment (just like Starmer's ยฃ2m one). Oh dear.
@alexhrbfc@PeterABedford@LBC And? What proportion of the wealthy use state?
Also, what about the other 50%?
Those are the ones impacted the most. Strivers just scraping the fees, many to provide an education for their SEND child.
@Deserter909@PeterABedford@LBC The 'entitled psychopaths' with inherited wealth will be fine.
It is disproportionately impacting poorer students, including those on bursaries and children with SEND needs.
@kettering_red@CharlesHThyme Nah.
They'll be using their new free cash to buy homes to attend the better state schools, pricing poorer families out even more.
@kettering_red@CharlesHThyme What makes you think teachers from abroad would want to work in the UK?
There's a longstanding retention issue in this country.
@kettering_red@CharlesHThyme Nope.
Many teachers won't want to work for the state. Lower-paid staff, such as cleaners, may well struggle to find stable work.
@bobby_driv2429@ChrisG01@zatzi Exactly. It is very complex. There's the other side too - those who can no longer afford the fees will no longer work extra shifts (no incentive). A lot of parents will be skilled workers too, which we need (e.g. doctors).
@kettering_red@CharlesHThyme Good for them! ๐
Iโm sure those two tutors will generate roughly the same amount of tax as the hundreds of staff who have lost their jobs due to independent schools closing. That'll benefit everyone, sure.
@lotte_hughes@alysdenby The government have a responsibility to support ALL children.
You should be noting that a whopping ~93 already use state. So why isn't it already fantastic?
@kettering_red@CharlesHThyme Nah.
Parents will still prioritise education.
A move to better catchment areas is more likely, pricing poorer people out.
Tutoring too, widening the gap further.
@kettering_red@CharlesHThyme I'm aware, but your use of it as a snipe highlights yet a further issue with the VAT on fees. Thought it was worth highlighting. ๐
@kettering_red@CharlesHThyme You mock, but that's not a good thing.
Reduction of spending in the local economy as an adapted behaviour from the VAT on fees will only harm small, ind. businesses and will, ironically, reduce tax intake overall as more and more fail.
@DonaldClark@DianaBr95650186@jowilliams293 They were elected on their promise that the VAT would directly fund 6,500 new teachers for state (which was false).
As highlighted, their proposed reforms to SEND have been met with skepticism.
Yes, great. Yet, this doesn't detract from SEND children disrupted by the VAT.
