The Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB), in collaboration with the Nigerian Content Consultative Forum Shipping and Logistics Sectoral Working Group (NCCF S&L WG), yesterday, introduced the Marine Vessel Information System (MAVIS) software to industry stakeholders in Lagos.

During the unveiling at a stakeholder engagement event organized by the Board in Lagos, Engr. Jefferson Tuatongha, General Manager, Upstream Monitoring, stated in his opening remarks that the Board had identified gaps in its NOGICJQS Marine Categorization system. Over the past four years, the Board has worked to develop a solution that would close these gaps, enhance its ability to monitor compliance, and categorize marine assets more effectively. MAVIS will also provide stakeholders with real-time access to marine asset data.

Engr. Tuatongha explained that MAVIS is designed to be accessible on both mobile devices and desktops, allowing stakeholders to conduct inventory searches for marine assets, vessels, vendors, and verify licenses, certifications, and the operational status of assets. The system integrates APIs connected to global marine asset databases as well as those of Nigerian petroleum and marine industry government agencies.

In a virtual presentation, Mina Oforiokuma, Chairman of the NCCF S&L WG, outlined MAVIS’s key benefits to the industry, including a robust repository for marine assets, improved administration and governance, enhanced operational efficiency, cost reduction, better port utilization, improved logistics, safety and environmental standards, reduced downtime, enhanced risk assessment and underwriting, and better fleet management.

MAVIS is still under development and will be officially launched by NCDMB and NCCF S&L WG after incorporating feedback and suggestions from the stakeholder engagement meeting.

The event, held at Protea Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos, was well-attended by key stakeholders, including operators, vendors, and government agencies from the petroleum and maritime sectors.
