@wayword Ref the pronunciation of RECIPE: I recall hearing Mrs. Bridges (the cook on Upstairs Downstairs) use the 2-syllable version, which I heard as ruh-SEEP (vs ruh-SEAT). Whichever, I presumed it was determined to be what someone of her class would have said in that era.
