These two photos showed me so much, but it took me a day to understand it. Catherine's cancer didn't just affect William. I guess I hoped the children were too young to really understand how sick their mom was, but they knew!
They saw their mom diminish through the treatments. They saw the sick days and nights. The treatments that were tough. And yeah, George and Charlotte got it; cancer can kill.
So now looking at Charlotte, she's emotional because her mom, the one who is her person, finally conquered a challenge that was likely planned long ago to get through the days of lethargy and illness.
Charlotte's mom, her rock and her confidant, struggled. Really struggled and she was scared. All this emotion in two photos, and I missed it because my childhood didn't have the word, cancer, written into it.
Charlotte won't forget the bad days, but I hope they become a distant memory that's easily forgotten amid happier times and a mom who is cancer-free forever.
