23-year-old Iryna Zarutska a Ukrainian refugee fled war for safety in America… only to be stabbed to death from behind on a Charlotte light rail by a career criminal with a long record.

Now her family is filing a lawsuit seeking accountability beyond just the killer. The suit is focusing on broader failures that allowed the attack to happen (transit security lapses, lack of barriers/gates, oversight issues with the Charlotte Area Transit System, etc.).

The family has said they want systemic changes so something like this does not happen again on public transit.
