Why did the British cut down Bangladesh’s land to create the Siliguri Corridor -- the “Chicken’s Neck” -- for India?

🎯Simply, to keep a land route with India’s Northeast, the Seven Sisters.

In other words, while working for India’s benefit, the British cut away our land and left us a tiny, bonsai-sized country.

For 200 years, the Indians licked the boots of the British -- and later, through the Congress party --gained political and diplomatic success at Bangladesh's cost.

Even though the movement for an independent Assam (today’s Seven Sisters) started before Bengal’s Muslims began the Pakistan movement, the British ignored it -- only to reward the Congress and the Indians. In doing so, they cut off parts of Bangladesh’s land only for India’s benefit.

Now imagine 20, 50, or 100 years from today, if the Seven Sisters ever declared themselves a single independent country, what would Bangladesh do then?

Could Bangladesh take back the important Siliguri Corridor and extend its border from Burungamari to Bhutan and Sikkim --maybe even reach China? Do Bangladeshis have the courage and mindset for that?

When the British left, in 1947-48, Pakistan fought for 437 days over Kashmir and extended its border toward China -- a gain Pakistan still benefits from.

If Bangladesh could regain this strategically important area -- which was once our land (except Sikkim) but lost because of the British -- it would gain direct borders with China, Nepal, and Bhutan. That would help trade grow and make Bangladesh much more important as a country.

✴️Remember: the British are gone -- you can’t rely only on crafty diplomacy or to make a country for you anymore.

You would have to earn it, perhaps through bloodshed.

To make this plan work, Bangladesh would need deep and strong ties with Pakistan and China -- relationships that would help us on that day.
