Imām Ibn al-Qayyim said:

“It has been experienced that whoever says seven times:

أَنِّي مَسَّنِيَ الضُّرُّ وَأَنْتَ أَرْحَمُ الرَّاحِمِينَ

‘Indeed, adversity has touched me, and You are the Most Merciful of those who show mercy,’

Allah will remove his affliction.”

al-Fawāʾid, p. 292

This is the supplication of the Prophet Ayyūb when he called upon Allah during his severe affliction:

أَنِّي مَسَّنِيَ الضُّرُّ وَأَنْتَ أَرْحَمُ الرَّاحِمِينَ

“Indeed, adversity has touched me, and You are the Most Merciful of those who show mercy.”

[Sūrah al-Anbiyāʾ 21:83]

Allah then says:

فَاسْتَجَبْنَا لَهُ فَكَشَفْنَا مَا بِهِ مِن ضُرٍّ

“So We answered him and removed the adversity that afflicted him.”

[Sūrah al-Anbiyāʾ 21:84]

May Allah relieve the difficulties of every Muslim, cure the sick, ease the affairs of those facing hardship, and accept from us all.
