This is genuinely one of the most honest builder stories I have come across.
A developer built 4 iOS apps with Claude. Real ones. SwiftUI, StoreKit, widgets, Live Activities. The whole thing. He has 5 more in active development.
His total revenue across all of them: $0.
His total users: his wife, and one guy in Finland who he suspects downloaded it by accident.
He said something that stuck with me. Writing the product spec took longer than getting a working build. The barrier to building is gone. Claude dissolved it.
But here is what he figured out the hard way.
Building and getting users were never the same barrier. They just always
felt impossible at the same time, so nobody noticed they were two separate problems.
Now you can ship a real app in a weekend. Which means you can also fail faster, more often, with more apps in flight than you can emotionally
manage.
His exact words: "I've been confusing 'I finished the thing' with 'I did the work.'"
Finishing the app is like finishing a restaurant menu. You still have to get people in the door.
Distribution is the job.
