More research is needed into the underlying mechanisms of #anorexia that can make treatment more effective. This was one of the goals of the @SPEAKSstudy
Eating disorders are serious conditions and can potentially be life-threatening.
Research helps us to understand more, not just about the treatment of eating disorders, but underlying causes and common risk factors.
We must safeguard this funding.
Calling all researchers who work with individuals with eating disorders! We'd love to hear about the work you're doing at one of our meetings! Presenting is also a great opportunity to share ideas & get feedback. Projects can be in progress or preparation! Email: [email protected]
People affected by eating disorders are facing huge injustices when accessing treatment! Please help change this by signing the #dumpthescales petition

@AnorexiaMyths Yes, this. In @SPEAKSstudy we started from trying to understand lived experience of others to develop our thoughts on anorexia first, building therapy from there upwards. Nothing is for everyone, so SPEAKS is not for all, but we believe in this approach for developing therapies.
And Tony Lavender just wrapping up - thanking everyone for coming along. From the origin it was people spotting the gaps in knowledge. As Leonard Cohen said "It's the gaps that let the light in".
Q&A for #SPEAKS2022 Do you think this approach would be equally useful for other ED presentations? Helen: My sense would be that yes, it would be applicable to other eating disorders, and other presentations. Anna: I'd want to not assume that the process of change would be the >
Q: When do you think it will be rolled out? Anna: start by offering a training package and seeing where it goes from there. We feel very passionate about SPEAKS, and that it does maybe bridge a gap. We don't have a time-line or particular plan, still very much digesting.
