4th graders were so excited to get to be the “teacher” and lead our reading group through some syllable division practice! @IMSEOG@SPEPatriots@katie_turkle
My 5th grade reading students helping my 1st grade reading students! This makes my heart so happy. ❤️ They all have said this morning routine is one of the best parts of their day! @SPEPatriots @SPELibrary ✏️📖📚
First graders using letter tiles to build words by substituting one sound at a time. An engaging & multi-sensory way to practice blending and spelling! ✏️📓📖 @IMSEOG
I love making syllables FUN to learn! I use a syllable safari theme and students get so excited to learn about each animal’s division pattern! @IMSEOG@SPEPatriots 🐹🐯🐢🦁🐝
It has been such a JOY getting to model lessons in each of the grade levels this week. 💗 Second graders rocked 🎸closed/not closed syllables and want to teach you all about them!@SPEPatriots
I love summer tutoring, especially how much I get to know each of my students since it’s primarily one-on-one. Here is my back-to-school treat for my littles! ✏️📚📖
So excited to read this new book written by a @bvschools educator! Dr. Jenson helped lead our Covid task force during the 2020-2021 school year. @AfterTheMask
I don’t think I was supposed to see this until Monday but sometimes work calls on the weekend. 🤪
This was truly the sweetest surprise and definitely put a big smile on my face! Thank you to our amazing families for the darling door decoration. 💗 @SPEPatriots
Teaching syllable division patterns (ways to cut words apart) and syllable types (guides to pronunciation) gives readers have a map to discover how to read longer phonetic words. As strategies are applied more skillfully and automatically, the landscape of reading is widened.📖📚
Syllable Division strategies can unlock the world of reading for older students who struggle to decode words. Older students may have a strong oral vocabulary and once they can decode the word they are then able to put that word into the context of their reading.
How do students move from slowly decoding, word by word to being able to read words quickly and easily? You can thank orthographic mapping for that.
