@sarah12192017 I’m sorry someone said that, it clearly has a negative connotation to me. A caregiver is part of the health and social service team, part of the cared person’s life + the link between everyone involved. Surely not someone passively standing beside the patient (my understanding)!
@Thomsod 2/2 Around 12, another assessment: profound ID diagnosis. She doesn’t have a diagnosis regarding a physical disability nor ASD. We ‘belong’’ in/to the IDD and rare disease communities. Language might differ though so my French-speaking reference might not fit into your context.
@Thomsod 1/2 Before official diagnosis, my daughter had a global developmental delay (not disability). Genetic diagnosis didn’t change that, and the global dev delay is in the characteristics of her Syndrome (scientific litterature). At 4, an assessment than gave her an ID diagnosis. ->

@sarah12192017 That is one of the reasons I initiated a petition asking for the creation of a special commission that could hear citizens and organizations depict the caregivers’ reality, to avoid children, teens and adults with ID, ASD, or other diagnosis, to go back in institutions. 1/2
