"Most tenants are forced to leave... not because of formal eviction proceedings, but because they’ve been illegally locked out or their utilities have been shut off... they want to avoid an eviction being added to their record by leaving on their own."

SF Tenants: Make your voice heard during hearing on "explosive problems" w/ illegal & unsafe seismic retrofits - Mon. 6/7, 1:30pm [Dial 415-655-0001; Meeting ID 187-714-5745].
We need accountability & roll backs on passthrough$ for work that makes tenants unsafe in their homes!
"Landlords have incentives to keep voucher holders out of affluent white neighborhoods, while enticing them to poor neighborhoods where vouchers offer a viable alternative to the volatility of the low-income housing market."

We applaud the San Jose City Council for implementing a temporary rent freeze. Other local lawmakers in California should follow suit. People are already getting slammed by back-rent debt. They can't afford higher rents. https://t.co/MC3DLzugAl
Reporters often cite a #Stanford study as a reason to not implement #rentcontrol. Housing Is A Human Right examined this report -- and we found numerous, and serious, flaws. Reporters and lawmakers should take note. https://t.co/XBc3kVeXzm
Housing must be a top issue for the Biden Administration and Congress. If you don't have stable, affordable housing, it's difficult to maintain your health, maintain a job, excel in school, and many other things. Housing is crucial. #housingisahumanright https://t.co/FN4bzfRFlG
Criminalizing homelessness will never fix that crisis. People urgently need affordable rents and safe, stable housing. We can quickly provide that housing by repurposing old hotels and other existing buildings. https://t.co/RnGV8LLeI2
Yes! #RentStrike is a collective act to win collective demands like #CancelRent (with no new debts) & #HomesForAll!!! Join with folks in your building, learn your tenant rights, share them with all your neighbors and stand together to win safe, secure, dignified housing!!!
.@LATenantsUnion goin' hard on today's national day of action to #CancelRent (w/ no debts incurred) with tenants choosing #FoodNotRent! @GavinNewsom, you listening yet cuz we're gonna get louder!!! Cancel the rent Now! In the meantime, more folks are gonna #RentStike!!!
We need Congress to enact an immediate, 90-day national rent moratorium—a temporary suspension of rent payments that will keep families in their homes before other dominoes start to fall.

We need #Congress to ACT NOW to protect people experiencing homelessness as well as extremely low-income renters who will be hit especially hard due to #COVID19. CALL NOW! Details: https://t.co/tQsiRqmVEc
Dear @GavinNewsom , I would like you to know that the 100% of small landlords represented by SPORC support this demand. You never need to worry your pretty head listening to @caanet again.
Other landlords: don't evict anyone or jack the rent ever, but definitely not now.

TODAY: Call #Veritas / @greentreepmco / @RentSFNow and ask: Will you drop the rent hikes on tenants who marched yesterday?

this thread is the best explainer of #AB1482 for those of you just tuning in
tl;dr: awesome that this passed but it really really can’t be emphasized enough that this is not a time to be sitting on any laurels
Today we made HISTORY!!!
Just now, the CA legislature passed the Tenant Protection Act of 2019 and is on its way to @GavinNewsom desk to be signed! #AB1482 expands protections to 7 million tenants, covering more renters than any single tenant protection bill in recent US history!
LA City Council just voted unanimously to renew the homeless criminalizing section 85.02. The crowd erupted into boos and shouts of “shame on you” and “housing is a human right”
@mhdcd8 tried to explain to @LACANetwork that extending 85.02 is doing a favor for the unhoused.
