This means that to gather indoors safely, a vax/booster requirement – while better than nothing – isn't very reassuring. To do indoor gatherings safely, it’s really about good masking (& no indoor eating) and ventilation; adding pre-event rapid testing offers additional…(22/25)
Hey y’all! Got another post out here supporting the folks at @sunrisespartans with their petition to get MSU to divest their investments from fossil fuels. To support, follow this link and sign the petition! https://t.co/CEz3WPU4GG
Our hub members restated our demands to the Board of Trustees this morning, highlighting their hypocrisy and the necessary urgency this issue requires. @michiganstateu BoT, you know our future is at stake. #DivestMSU once and for all. 📸: @thesnews
The MSU Board of Trustees is in an ethically indefensible position. In 2020, Michigan State invested $2.05 million in Marathon Petroleum Corp. and continues to indirectly fund many fossil fuel corporations through hedge funds. MSU must divest. Petition link in bio. #DivestMSU
We started a series where our hub members share personal stories on why #divestment matters to them and the damage failing to divest will cause. First, Jacob May calls out the hypocrisy of @michiganstateu as a leader in agricultural development, yet they refuse to #DivestMSU
This is not okay @michiganstateu. You need to at least explore some accommodations. Or, you know, try to sound like a human being with any bit of empathy is behind the reply.
Many large lectures are more than 100 people, and many students are still wearing cloth masks. The decision by @michiganstateu to go remote for the first three weeks is in line with state health guidance.
@MSU_Athletics has an important decision to make about indoor sports...
Here's where we are as a state, Michigan: almost every county with population >250K has a positive test rate near or above 15%. Statewide, it's about 18%.
There's a ton of undetected COVID cases. https://t.co/4bFn7lgTLp
So just to get this completely clear: @michiganstateu is giving a cash bonus to faculty, staff, postdocs, and TAs/RAs, but not restoring faculty retirement contributions, AND grad students on fellowships (internal or external) aren't getting the money?
Over 1200 have signed this petition, to return pay taken for a crisis that never came: https://t.co/uPJVgxVel9
Meanwhile, MSU has hired a search firm to find a new VP/CHRO, reporting to EVP/CIO @mzyw.
Will Dr. Woo prioritize choices that build trust?

Michigan State University faculty members don’t just want their COVID-19–related cuts to pay and benefits reversed—they want them returned. https://t.co/D78nO09dFp
MSU's response: "The pandemic has been a struggle, including financially for a lot of individuals across the university and the university itself."
The numbers tell a different story. https://t.co/qHAeXp6sc9

Over 700 signatures.
“President Stanley’s projected $43M loss in state appropriations never happened… The university also received $7M more in tuition than projected.
Stanley projected no federal relief… but MSU received over $86M in aid + $50M in student financial aid.”
"MSU unnecessarily balanced its budget on the backs of faculty and academic staff. We support the MSU Faculty Senate resolution passed near unanimously on Nov. 16, 2021, calling on MSU to restore faculty retirement benefit cuts, pay cuts and merit raises." https://t.co/uPJVgxVel9
A conundrum: based on MSU's reported cases (126 cases / 7 days / 67,000 people = ~27 avg. daily cases per 100K) we are doing much better than Ingham Co. as a whole (or any county in MI!)
But it's hard to trust that reported cases are comprehensive. What does the sewage data say?
