@DanielJHannan You are right, but sadly the Atlee Government sold that concept to people when it created the Welfare State. The fact that the so-called ‘contributions’ were spent at source has never been made clear by any politician for obvious reasons.

@KathyParr101 We have a debt of £3 Trillion. The interest on this is more than we spend on Defence. We are living way beyond our means; totally unsustainable. Scrapping the triple lock will be painless compared to the inevitable other choices that we are facing.

@iAmJoshHunt I was working for the Government when PFI first appeared around 1994 by the Major Government. Everyone, bar some in the Treasury, thought it was nuts and would end with Blair in 1997. Wrong, he and Brown put it on steroids.

@bashersi @LanceForman @Nigel_Farage When state pensions were first conceived by Lloyd George, life expectancy was 61 not 79. We are living a lie about pension affordability. There is no such thing as a NI pension pot, its taxation. As a pensioner myself, I am happy for the triple lock to be scrapped as a starter.
