Creative Arts Team Leader, ITE coordinator + Y4 teacher. Lover of books, storytelling and a believer in every child needs a champion. Full-time teaching mum.
Reason #1 ppl often don't 'get' why full day, full-timetable teaching is so tough: The pace.
It's unrelenting. It's not 'Oh, I'll pop to the loo', 'I'll day dream, just for a minute', 'I'll just switch off for the next hour and no one will know' - they will know, you will get found out! It's intense - You must be 'on' ALL the time. That's why it's so hard to sustain, esp in the toughest contexts, because humans need a head rest.
That's why extra PPA is just so, so vital and thee biggest thing that would change so many teacher lives.
"Mattering" is the belief that we’re significant to the world around us. When people feel they matter, they feel seen, important & needed through how others treat them. Scholars have deemed mattering to be a core instinct that drives all human behaviour. That’s why, when someone doesn’t believe they matter at work they:
- won’t share their voice if they don’t believe their voice is significant
- won’t use their strengths if they don’t believe they have strengths
- won’t contribute if they don’t believe they have something to contribute
- won’t care as much as if they feel cared for
Actions that leaders/ teams can take: see some excellent articles by @ZachMercurio - "How to Create Mattering at Work": https://t.co/vlxLnrqGWF and "The Cost of Not Mattering at Work": https://t.co/AocAKNMhxm.

@Loujanesla @Strickomaster @CherylLeeAssoc I agree, I hate the Monday morning drop of emails. We have a morning briefing that leads straight up to the children coming in. I’m then on duty and have a club at lunchtime. So realistically I’m not opening them until after school on Monday when I want to be collecting my girl.
@MrsSpalding We had a yellow one and it was a life saver for my girl at times. Often used as we arrived at shopping centres or play parks and she decided she needed to go. Also on long journeys. Great to keep in the boot of the car.
Great start to the summer holidays!
Fantastic staff night out but unfortunate 2 day hang over, dad admitted to hospital after spending a night in A&E with him and today the boiler has been condemned and turned off! Yay!
