Verdict: FALSE ❌

Reality: The claim that there was no action or conviction is simply not supported by the record.

The BJP-led Madhya Pradesh government under Shivraj Singh Chouhan took cognisance of the Vyapam allegations and initiated a major crackdown against those involved in examination and recruitment irregularities.

Statewide Raids & Arrests: Following major arrests by the Indore Police in July 2013, the state government launched a broader crackdown targeting impersonators, middlemen, officials and examination racketeers.

Creation of Special Task Force (STF): In August 2013, the Madhya Pradesh government handed the investigation over to a specialised STF to investigate the allegations and identify those involved.

High-Profile Arrests: The STF arrested thousands of people in connection with the case, including officials, impersonators, middlemen and alleged kingpins. Former Madhya Pradesh Higher Education Minister Laxmikant Sharma was also arrested in connection with the investigation.

Request for CBI Probe: On July 7, 2015, then Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan sought the transfer of the Vyapam cases and related deaths to the CBI. The Supreme Court subsequently transferred the investigation to the CBI.

Cancellation of Admissions & Ranks: Candidates found to have obtained medical admissions through fraudulent means or impersonation faced cancellation of their admissions, ranks and degrees. Several appointments obtained through irregular recruitment examinations were also cancelled.

Termination of Jobs: Government appointments obtained through fraudulent recruitment examinations were annulled, and candidates accused in these cases faced criminal proceedings.

Convictions: The CBI subsequently prosecuted numerous accused in Vyapam-related cases, with 100+ convictions secured in cases before designated courts.

Sentences: Convicted individuals received prison sentences and financial penalties depending on their roles in the respective cases.

So the claim that the Vyapam scam saw “no action” and “no convictions” is FALSE. ❌
