If your 14-18 YO student athlete isn’t willing to make his or her own meals and get to bed on time they don’t really care about being elite.
Seriously, if you spend thousands on your kids sports, they have an iPad, spend hours per day on social media and may even drive one of your vehicles they should absolutely be able to structure a routine to supports their goals.
The final months of the school year should be maximized especially if they want to stay healthy this summer through camp and fall ball.
It’s never too late to dial in your nutrition, sleep, hydration, training, and habits. Don’t claim you want to be great and want a D1 scholarship yet have a work ethic consistent with Intramural sports.
Tough love from me today.. there’s a lot of hard working athletes out there hungry to get better and they will outperform those who rely on “talent”.
You can’t rely on luck. You have to rely on your level of competitiveness. You can’t practice soft and expect to play hard. There is no rising under the bright lights. You only fall to your level of work and your competition.
Kelvin Sampson doesn’t mention the word talent once here.
He talks about attitude, effort, body language, and consistency.
Because those are the habits that win.
