The Home Affairs Select Committee report on the ban of Maccabi Tel Aviv fans has been published and could not be more damning of the West Midlands police, the local Safety and Advisory Group (SAG) and, to a lesser extent, the government.
This has further dented public trust in the police not only within the Jewish community but across the country as police were shown to have lied in several ways about the fictitious danger of Israeli fans vs the real threat to danger by the local community.

A saxophonist and jazz lecturer who was ‘cancelled’ after daring to criticise BLM has been vindicated, with his employer confirming he is “not a racist”.

Martin Speake taught at Trinity Laban Conservatoire for 24 years before his life was “destroyed” when students began boycotting his lessons.

The internationally renowned saxophonist faced backlash after responding to an email seeking feedback on a diversity action plan, in which he described BLM as “dangerous” and said there was no “systemic” racial inequality in British jazz.

After taking an extended period of sick leave, he returned to work — but the boycott continued. He was left with no option but to resign in November 2024.

With the support of the Free Speech Union, Martin was preparing to bring claims for constructive dismissal, discrimination and harassment at an employment tribunal.

We are delighted to confirm that both parties have now reached a settlement, with Trinity Laban admitting that Mr Speake is not racist.

A major victory for Martin — and for free speech.
