The initial project, construction of the Poygah, is scheduled to be completed in April 2021. Development of facilities along the trail will continue in the years ahead. This Poygah can become as a conduit for enterprises and a space for creative expressions.

The stairs, made of wood and stones, will enable adventure-seeking tourists to climb the Ondra hill and reach the top. Women, and men, equipped with axes and saws, are busy removing grass, thorns and bushes from the land that will become part of the Ondra Poygah trail.

It will pass through the ancient Qilha village and provide a peek into history and culture of the region, while also offering amazing sightseeing and physical excursion opportunities. The trail is envisaged to be around 6ft wide.

The project envisages to build a stair from the bottom of the Ondra hills to the Ondra walled village/fort. According to a survey conducted by the Gulmit Educational and Social Welfare Society, the total length of the track (including stairs) is around 3,800 feet.

The Ondra Poygah Project @ondrapoygah - Pakistan's Highest & Longest Stairs.

The residents of Gulmit Gojal Hunza launched an ambitious and unique project called the Ondra Poyga on self help basis. Poygah in the local Wakhi language means “stair”.
