Today we celebrate the Gurgaddi Divas (day of Guruship) of the 6th Sikh Guru, Sri Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji Maharaj.

Guru Ji's father, Sri Guru Arjan Dev Ji (the 5th Sikh Guru), instructed that Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji should formalise the martial stance of Sikhi.

Today marks the Guru Gaddi Diwas of Dhan Sri Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji. Guru Ji gave sikhs the concept of Miri (Temporal) and Piri (Spiritual) by wearing two swords. He declared it is everyone's duty to stand up to oppressors against injustice and protect the innocent.

108 years ago, 376 Sikh, Hindu and Muslim British citizens arrived on the Komagata Maru to the British colony of Canada. There is a lot we can learn from the courageous local citizens who supported them, the systemic racism that eventually won, & the resiliency of the passengers.

Today in Sikh History: April 4, 1914

Guru Nanak Jahaz (Komagata Maru) started its journey from Hong Kong to British Columbia, Canada, with 376 passengers, under Baba Gurdit Singh’s leadership. Guru Granth Sahib accompanied the passengers along with the Nishan Sahib on the ship.
