♻️ Is it REALLY recyclable?
Plastic bottles, jugs, tubs, and clamshell containers made from #1, #2, or #5 plastic belong in your blue recycling bin. Think water bottles, milk jugs, yogurt tubs, and berry containers.
🚫 Plastic cups, utensils, plates, and mixed-material plastics do NOT belong in the blue bin — even if they have a recycling symbol.
When in doubt, remember:
✔️ Rigid #1, #2, or #5 containers = recycle
❌ Everything else = gray garbage bin
Recycling right matters more than recycling more! 💙

🌊 High Tides + Heavy Rain = Possible Localized Flooding 🌧️
During periods of high tides combined with heavy rainfall, some low-lying areas of South San Francisco may experience temporary street or curbside flooding. When tides are high, stormwater has a harder time draining into the Bay, which can cause water to back up—especially during intense rain.
Upcoming High Tide Times:
📅 Saturday, 1/3: High Tide at 12:40 a.m. and 11 a.m.
📅 Sunday, 1/4: High Tide at 1:25 a.m. and 11:50 a.m.
📅 Monday, 1/5: High Tide at 2 a.m. and 12:45 p.m.
Please be extra cautious during these times, particularly if heavy rain is forecast.
✴️Free Sandbags Available (24/7)
To help residents prepare, free sandbag supplies are available at the Public Works Maintenance Corporation Yard parking lot:
📍 550 North Canal Street
• Available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
• Limit: 10 sandbags per South San Francisco address
• Available to all South San Francisco properties
What you can do to help stay safe:
✔️ Avoid driving or walking through standing water
✔️ Allow extra travel time during storms
✔️ Keep storm drains near your home clear of leaves and debris (only if safe to do so)
✔️ Move vehicles away from known low-lying or flood-prone areas
If you experience flooding or have an emergency related to storm conditions, please contact Public Works at 650-877-8550.
Thank you for helping keep our community safe and prepared.@SSFPolice@SSFFire@CityofSSF

As you get ready to enjoy time with family and friends, let’s also do our part to keep our city clean and green. Here are a few quick tips to help:
• Use reusable plates, cutlery and napkins if you can — every little bit reduces waste. ♻️
• Scrape leftover food (turkey bones, veggie scraps, coffee grounds, paper napkins) into your green/organics cart — not the trash. 🍂
• Rinse and empty plates, foil trays and cans BEFORE recycling them so they don’t contaminate the bin. 🔄
• After the holiday, consider composting your greenery or yard-waste instead of trashing it. 🌱
Thank you for helping us keep South City beautiful — enjoy the holiday and stay safe!

🎃 Trash Talk: Practicing Waste-Free Boo-havior! 👻
Halloween is almost here — let’s get spirited about reducing waste and creating clean compost! 🌿
Here are some spooktacular pumpkin ideas from South San Francisco’s franchised hauler, SSF Scavenger, and friends at the City of Brisbane:
🧟♂️ Creepily Carved – Use tools you already have instead of buying plastic ones.
🧵 Scarily Stitched – Stitch with raffia or long grass for a Frankenstein look.
🍂 Organically Eerie – Decorate with leaves, twigs, or natural dyes.
🐈 Ghoulishly Grouped – Stack pumpkins into a “pumpkin person” or pet.
🌟 Chillingly Lit – Use solar or rechargeable lights.
When the fun’s over, toss plain or naturally decorated pumpkins in your green cart. Pumpkins with paint, glitter, or glue go in the gray cart. ♻️
For a fun fall word search of what belongs in your green cart, follow the QR code in our ad!
