Are you a student sick of exploitative landlords?
We at SSHC are looking for two new members!

In our co-operative Crookes-based house, we're all equals. All members are empowered to actively contribute and democratically work together to run the co-op in lieu of a landlord (1/3)

This gives us free rein to decorate, garden, and generally live without fear or exploitation.

We aim to make the house and the application process as accessible as possible, and we encourage applications from students from marginalised backgrounds. (2/3)

...instead, here’s a rather interesting take on gin rummy invented rather haphazardly by the same soup-making member; it’s a game that we’ve affectionately dubbed Rum Ginny, partly as it’s likely best played while inebriated, but the gameplay may require further testing…!

We kicked off May with a Beltane bang! We wish we could show you more pictures of around the fire, or a video of us each jumping over it for good luck, or even the vegan dumpling soup one member made for the event, but we were too busy Respecting Tradition to take much footage…

March was a rather quiet start to the season, so we’re moving on to April!
April was a month of gardening, harvesting, and Beltane preparation, including an unexpected but welcome crop of reclaimed bricks that we used to make a firepit! Check out one member’s “catch of the day”!

The household we make together could be ex-strawberry….you see, like “extraordinary”? Eh? Ah, perhaps that was too corny, or a branch too far; raspberries to that then ;)

I love the “cheaper” food argument for trade deals devastating for our farmers. Like accepting poor quality food raised in a way illegal in this Country for human health and welfare issues is OK for people on low income and mass catering like schools and hospitals.
