Children who struggle to talk and understand words are six times more likely to be behind in English. We believe tools and training for nurseries and schools are key to identifying and supporting these children early #EarlyWordsMatter

The SSLiC programme supports a sustained focus on #SpokenLanguage across all stages of #PrimaryEducation and works on supporting #teachers and whole #school development to develop their pupils' spoken language through high quality and evidence based teaching and resources.
We can't wait for this multilingual performance for our 2024 International Language Day, showcasing pupils' amazing language skills!
Performers' families are invited and we'll share the video with all our schools. It will be very special! #InternationalMotherLanguageDay#EAL
We commend that @bphillipsonMP@LabourParty acknowledged the link between children struggling with talking and understanding words and persistent absence. However, any future government must do more to support these children.

For fourteen years, the Conservatives have failed a generation.
That can, must, and will change.
Labour believes in excellence for everyone.
For all our children in all our schools.
That’s our dream, and that’s our plan.
1.9m children struggle with talking and understanding words.
We believe more #Teachers and #EarlyYears staff need to be trained and encouraged to use positive daily speech and language practices.

So true! Spoken language-the understanding and use of it-is fundamental to everything we do- in learning, in socialising and in work. We need to get this foundational skill sorted if we want strong literacy and numeracy skills in children
Great to see how the @SSLiC_study aligns with Aim 1 of this important new strategy to “make speech and language central to more schools’ and nurseries’ everyday practice across the UK” @SpeechAndLangUK@SOEBristol@IOE_London
We want every child with speech and language challenges to have the skills they need to face the future with confidence. That's why today we are launching our ambitious new five-year strategy - ‘Confident young futures' -https://t.co/TmutwoTBCS
