Update on the July 28 SSS DeFi Security Incident

We have continued to closely monitor and trace the funds associated with the July 28 SSS DeFi security incident.

On August 9, stolen assets were moved again from three of the four addresses listed below, including through cross-chain transfers and other attempts to obscure the fund flows. Despite these activities, we have continued our investigation and have successfully traced relevant fund flows to centralized exchanges (CEXs), with whom we have already established contact.

We remain willing to resolve this matter through direct communication. If you proactively contact us within three business days, we are prepared to negotiate a settlement at a cost of no more than 10% of the recovered amount.

If no contact is made within this period, we will proceed with formal legal and judicial actions to seek full recovery of the stolen assets, together with compensation for additional losses, costs, and damages incurred.

I’m writing this out of frustration because I genuinely care about the future of the $ICP ecosystem.

Hey @dominic_w @PierreSamaties,

You often talk about attracting builders and growing the ecosystem, but where is the support for the people who are actually building?

I'm not even talking about grants. Forget the money.

Recognition is free.

A simple repost, a mention, or highlighting projects that are grinding day and night would mean a lot. Instead, it feels like only a handful of already well-funded projects keep getting the spotlight while dozens of passionate builders are completely ignored.

I have zero hate towards projects like Oisy or Liquidium. They're building great products and deserve success.

But why is almost all the attention concentrated on the same few teams?

Meanwhile, there are builders who chose ICP despite knowing they'll probably never receive a grant or even a single mention from the foundation.

Projects like:

...and many more (sorry if I missed anyone).

These teams are building because they believe in $icp - not because they're getting funding.

Yet they rarely get any recognition.

The frustrating part is that we've already seen several heavily supported projects fail the community or simply extract value. We've watched projects lose momentum, abandon users, or disappoint after receiving significant backing.

Meanwhile, the builders who continue showing up every single day get ignored.

How does that make sense?

Look at ecosystems like Solana or even Robinhood Chain.

One thing they do exceptionally well is supporting their builders. They amplify them, celebrate them, and help them grow. That creates momentum, attracts developers, and brings new users.

That's how ecosystems expand.

ICP has incredible technology. I genuinely believe that.

But technology alone doesn't build an ecosystem.

People do.

Builders do.

Communities do.

For the past couple of years, it feels like we've struggled to attract meaningful new users or liquidity while many existing builders and community members have simply left.

Price action reflects sentiment, and sentiment reflects how people feel about the ecosystem.

Please stop acting like everything is fine.

Instead of pushing only the same 2-3 projects or constantly shifting focus to the next narrative, spend some time highlighting the builders who are quietly creating value every day.

Many of them aren't asking for grants.

They aren't asking for millions.

They're asking for something much smaller.

Recognition.

Because sometimes one post from the official ICP accounts can do more for a small builder than months of marketing they can't afford.

If these builders succeed entirely on their own after being ignored, don't show up later to claim them as $ICP success stories.

Support them while they're building.

That's how you create a thriving ecosystem.
