The NewsGuild of New York reaches tentative first contract agreement with Alden Global Capital for journalists at the Daily News. https://t.co/gXQ2820qks
Today, @chicagotribune laid off five guild staff members in a roughly 10% cut to our newsroom. These layoffs underscore a sad but unsurprising failure of leadership by Alden Global Capital, our hedge fund owner, and local management.
A year ago, we announced the formation of the Sun Sentinel Guild.
Since we received a unanimous vote to unionize, we’ve been fighting for better pay and better conditions for our journalists.
We look forward to representing the Sun Sentinel’s journalists for years to come!
ANOTHER BIG GANNETT WIN: @therecordguild has won a historic first contract, lifting long-stagnant wages by over 25% on average, and averting a planned walkout. More here....

We don't have an Albany reporter, we don't have a metro editor -- but the brain trust at Alden Global Capital saw fit to spend money on a "content intelligence program" whose artificial intelligence might be in the running for the worst editor we've ever had.
Great news: Our union has been voluntarily recognized!
We are very optimistic about the choice to voluntarily recognize our union, and expect that it will be the beginning of a fruitful relationship between station management and our new union with @sagaftra. #WeMakeWLRN
