Our fourth keynote speaker, the eminent Dr. Vikram Patel, Paul Farmer Professor and Chair of Global Health and Social Medicine, Harvard Medical School and Co-Founder of @SangathIndia, stressed that truth and justice are the foundations of public health, noting how facts are interpreted differently and how commercial determinants and social media shape awareness. Reflecting on the pandemic, he highlighted unanswered questions about its origins and death toll, the mental health impact and the injustice faced by those left without food or shelter. He called for accountability, good governance and the need to overcome caste and religious prejudices to collectively fight inequality and strengthen public healthcare.

Our second keynote speaker of the afternoon session, Dr. Nirmala Nair, Co-founder, @EkjutIndia, Jharkhand delivered her speech on "When Communities are Empowered, Health Improves". Inspired by Paulo Freire’s concept of critical consciousness, she emphasized 'Participatory Learning and Action' approach where women identify problems and implement co-produced solutions, citing examples from Bolivia and Nepal. Starting with a small team in 2004, her cost-effective research on reducing newborn deaths, endorsed by WHO in 2014, is now active across nine Indian states. She concluded that language is not a barrier and that all interventions should be led by women.
