Sho Shigeoka

Sho is an assistant principal at Southridge High School in Beaverton, OR. Also a mother of a college student who constantly teaches Sho the meaning of life.

AVID class of 2023! I came to @southridgehigh when these scholars were freshmen. Their high school journey hasn’t been easy with the global pandemic but they not only survived but thrived! They are ready to sore, and I am so proud of you!

Got to chaperone a field trip to the portland art museum and a few art galleries with our incredibly talented IB art students. It sure filled my heart to be able to spend a day with this group of amazing human beings. Thank you for being my “why” 💕

Kudos to our band program! Jazz band, concert band, symphonic band and wind ensemble warmed up my heart this evening. We had a student conducting for the first time; she wants to be a band teacher! @southridgehigh

Had a rough day as I attended a service for one of the students we lost. I came back to my office and found this from a student I suspended 2x this year. It lifted me up and reminded me that I, too, need to do better about listening to their stories.

When your student asks you to be her twin for the twin day for spirit week, you never turn it down; instead you have fun with it!

The scholar I had to suspend for fighting has been checking in with me every morning. I called his dad to say what a responsible young man he is. Not sure if I’m doing it right but it feels right to do “discipline” with empathy.
