It’s a wrap with the Lomé regional Dialogue.
The Prevention Facility is officially launched — Partners share ambition to move from commitment to strategic interventions and impact, and to make prevention a central, concrete and sustainable pillar of stability in the Gulf of Guinea.
Five key recommendations:
1. Strengthen territorial and cross-border approaches to prevention.
2. Promote an integrated approach to prevention.
3. Reduce vulnerabilities linked to illicit economies.
4. Strengthen risk analysis, early warning, and response systems.
5. Strengthen funding and partnerships for prevention.

Leaders from around the world are convening in Samarkand, Uzbekistan for the Global Environment Facility (GEF) Assembly—uniting 186 countries and diverse voices to accelerate global environmental action and solutions.
The GEF Assembly meets once every 4 years remains the world’s largest multilateral environmental fund addressing the global environment in an integrated manner.
Its strength lies not only in financing projects, but in bringing together conventions, institutions, sectors, and countries around shared environmental solutions.

At the Global Environment Facility Assembly 2026 currently underway in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, the Secretary General to the Convention on Wetlands, Dr Musonda Mumba, delivered the keynote address at the Birds & Banks – Scaling Finance for Global Flyways event, that was focused on scaling up finance and conservation action for global flyways.
She engaged with and thanked the Asian Development Bank (ADB)@ADB_HQ the @WorldBankGroup the Development Bank of Latin America (CAF), the Global Environment Facility (GEF), and BirdLife International @BirdLife_News for their leadership.
Wetlands and migratory waterbirds are at the heart of the Convention’s mandate. The Secretary General stated that the Secretariat is encouraged to see the flyway model expanding globally - from East Asian-Australasian Flyway, to Americas and the African–Eurasian Flyway.
🌿 Flyway initiatives directly support the COP15 commitments on migratory waterbird conservation as well as the Convention’s Strategic Plan target to reverse the loss of wetland-dependent species
💧 Beyond conservation, flyways offer investable solutions—delivering ecosystem resilience, biodiversity gains, and sustainable livelihoods.
The Convention welcomes GEF-9’s strong focus on flyways as a priority investment area.

Celebrating restoration champions. Over the years, hundreds of community volunteers have participated in restoration efforts. No amount of money can pay for such efforts. At SUHUCAM, we believe that we can only #Restore4Prosperity, when communities lead. Deeply #grateful.
Should Africa pursue #climateadaptation or development?
This is a sensitive question that has bewildered African policymakers and governments for years now. Faced with inadequate resources💰and mounting debt 📉, developing countries are often unable to roll out ambitious infrastructure projects 🛣️and adapt their economies at the same time.
Dr George Manful explains why the continent shouldn’t have to choose one at the expense of the other.
Africa's new Adaptation campaign: What's it all about?
#Adapt2Live is a locally grounded campaign with a global outreach that seeks to rally Africa’s civil society, governments, policymakers, and other actors around unified #adaptation priorities for the continent.
It aims to influence negotiations and outcomes on #AdaptationFinance, #FoodSovereignty, #IndigenousKnowledge, #WaterSecurity, #Health, and #ClimateResilience at #COP32 next year.

What better way to celebrate World Biodiversity Day than by stepping into nature and experiencing biodiversity firsthand? 🦇🌿
The activity was also part of Eco Connect 2.0 to connect, learn, and appreciate the biodiversity around us.

Why does Adaptation work matter?
For some people, #climateadaptation is merely a buzzword. Another phrase in the climate jargon. Yet for millions in Africa, it's a matter of life & death. In this video, Thando Zungu of @ALXWaterWarrior explains why Africans must #adapt2live.
Today, we celebrate Africa’s hope — its youth.
It is a moment to stand in solidarity and act on the growing momentum of Africa-led solutions shaping peace, development and prosperity across the continent. #AfricaDay
COMMUNICATING CLIMATE ADAPTATION: 10 Uncomfortable Truths
At the fourth annual #PACAR convening this afternoon, we had an exciting session on effectively communicating climate adaptation in Africa.
Some uncomfortable truths emerged:
1. Coherence has been lacking in Africa’s adaptation messaging – there’s an opportunity to co-create and co-own messages
2. The adaptation messaging lacks representation and accountability – who are we representing and accounting to (farmers, pastoralists, funders)?
3. Africa isn’t entirely clear, or isn’t articulating, its specific demands for adaptation
4. Media and communications isn’t a support function – it’s a core function
5. To raise the profile of adaptation, communications must be at the heart of programmes
6. New and digital media are underutilised in communicating adaptation
7. Legacy media may be struggling, but it isn’t dead – it serves an important advocacy purpose and audience
8. Africa lacks identifiable adaptation champions – these must be built continuously
9. African actors aren’t branding themselves enough as adaptation champions
10. Pop culture, narratives, and propaganda are underutilised as platforms for elevating adaptation
These uncomfortable but important conversations will continue tomorrow.
ORGANISING AND LEARNING: The fourth annual convening of the Pan African Coalition on Adaptation and Resilience, #PACAR2026, ended in adventure, with a visit to a local organic farm in Machakos County, Kenya.
At Stoni Athi Organic Farm, Members of PACAR learnt about solarised irrigation, mixed cropping, and sustainable farm management practices. The farm cultivates various fruits and vegetables for both the domestic and export markets, promoting commerce and #foodsecurity and creating tens of jobs.

FOOD SOVEREIGNTY is the backbone of Africa's climate adaptation
#FoodSovereignty is the right of communities to control how food is grown, shared, and consumed in ways that are sustainable, culturally meaningful, and #resilient to climate change. Across Africa, communities are already leading solutions that protect #foodsystems and livelihoods in a changing climate. Because adaptation isn’t just about surviving — it’s about thriving.

HAPPENING THIS WEEK: The fourth annual workshop of the Pan African Coalition on Adaptation and Resilience, PACAR, is underway in Machakos County, Kenya.
The convening brings together climate adaptation experts from across Africa to deliberate on the continent’s adaptation needs and priorities ahead of upcoming global events, including this year’s SB64 and next year’s COP32 in Ethiopia.
For the next three days, African adaptation actors will explore ways to drive collective public pressure for policymakers to simultaneously develop the continent and strengthen resilience to climate change at all levels.

Communities cannot adapt to a crisis they have been excluded from understanding.
In North West Cameroon, SUHUCAM worked with indigenous Mbororo women to connect climate awareness with practical adaptation, turning degraded land into productive regenerative farms through agroecology and locally led solutions.
With support from a small grant, 45 women established climate-resilient farms using traditional night paddock manuring, restoring degraded soils while improving food security and livelihoods for more than 400 people.
The project shows what happens when adaptation finance reaches frontline communities directly: communities do not just survive climate impacts, they build resilience on their own terms.
