steve had just gone to the library
to find a silly book for his sister .
when he found nancy , he half-closed his lips. then he shook his
head and took a deep breath.

“ nance! how come you’re . .
here ? usual — study ? ”

⠀⠀⠀

[𝘚𝘛𝘌𝘝𝘌 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙝𝙖𝙞𝙧 ‎ @ST3VEBABYSITTER]

he is pleased that someone finally recognizes the effort of having to manage kids. so he gladly accepts and thanks !

[𝘚𝘛𝘌𝘝𝘌 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙝𝙖𝙞𝙧 ‎ @ST3VEBABYSITTER]

⠀⠀ ⠀

he took a few steps toward
his figure and laid a hand
on his shoulder.

" dude, you don't have to
explain. i think you've spent
𝑒𝑛𝑜𝑢𝑔ℎ time alone. besides,
being a hero is my favorite part.
i can't let eddie the freak
munson steal my role! ”

⠀⠀ ⠀
a small smile formed across
steve’s lips. he was 𝙙𝙚𝙛𝙞𝙣𝙞𝙩𝙚𝙡𝙮
tired, but when he heard
those words, he could do
nothing to nod softly. he’d
not leave him alone, 𝑛𝑜𝑡 𝑎𝑔𝑎𝑖𝑛,
to face yet another test of
endurance that hawkins
was giving them. +

glancing down and away from him for a moment, he hated that he had to involve him when he knew just how tired the other way. he knew just how exhausted he was from everything else, but he couldn't do it alone. "i'm not even entirely sure what it is this time, ~

mm? ow, i mean . .

nothing different than what i said , 𝙡𝙞𝙡 boy.

sure , something like that.

now what were you gonna say before , big boy ?

[𝘚𝘛𝘌𝘝𝘌 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙝𝙖𝙞𝙧 ‎ @ST3VEBABYSITTER]

he ran a hand through his hair
to calm himself before slowly
approaching the other.

“ i'm so . . sorry. i just
want you to know that
i'm here for you, 𝙖𝙡𝙬𝙖𝙮𝙨. ”

[𝘚𝘛𝘌𝘝𝘌 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙝𝙖𝙞𝙧 ‎ @ST3VEBABYSITTER]

“ instead , i have to do
it cause you're going
through this alone.
i can't understand what
you're feeling but i guess
it's not . . pleasant. ”

steve seemed to be a river
in flood, his hands moved
in the air as he spoke and his
voice sounding almost broken +

[𝘚𝘛𝘌𝘝𝘌 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙝𝙖𝙞𝙧 ‎ @ST3VEBABYSITTER]

stupid rather than helpful in
lightening that climate.

" i’m sorry . . . for not being there
from the first moment , not — "

he interrupted himself, the
words seemed to get stuck
in his throat. so he just
decided to keep silent, biting
his lip as hard as he could.

[𝘚𝘛𝘌𝘝𝘌 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙝𝙖𝙞𝙧 ‎ @ST3VEBABYSITTER]

he swallowed silently,
taking a few steps toward him. realizing the idea that eddie
was there again, in that form,
was a little difficult for him.

" you've always wanted quiet,
and you finally got it, didn't you? "

ow steve, really? how stupid .ᐟ
those words sounded so +

[𝘚𝘛𝘌𝘝𝘌 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙝𝙖𝙞𝙧 ‎ @ST3VEBABYSITTER]

steve tilted his head,
staring at him for a few
moments. lips half-closed
and eyebrows raised.
there was a weary, plagued
look on eddie's face.

" not . . it wasn't hard to
find you. i mean — your
safe places are not many. "

𝙘𝙤𝙣𝙛𝙪𝙨𝙚𝙙 ,
that's how he felt.
