Enu kaadi Depression e ??
"Enu kaadi Depression ei ? Sab kuchh taan hai,"
((What is she depressed about,, she has everything ?), is the miffed response from many husbands when I tell them their wife has Clinical Depression.
"We shifted into a new house two years back, bought a new car, last Diwali, he acts defensive as if being blamed for his wife's depression.
And this is the most stubborn block in the public consciousness in understanding an illness which may or may NOT be triggered, caused or worsened by stress
Clinical Depression can happen in the richest, the most well adusted and so far the happiest, life of the party person around you.
And an intellectual knowledge about the working of mind does not help either.Mental health workers get it as often as others
Many times, what seems to be the cause is the result of early Depression. The adolescent, who was always a good student did not develop Depression because he failed but he failed because he was depressed. The man was not Depressed because he lost his job, he lost his job because he was Depressed. Often the cause and effect become tangled and cannot be neatly teased out one from the other. In any case treatment of Clinical Depression is the same i.e treat the depression with medication or therapy or both.
Both together work better than each alone because therapy also untangles personality issues and stress if any
A hall full of 200 adults is likely to have 10 persons who need active treatment for Depression. About 300 million people suffer from Depression globally. It is not the only cause of suicide but it is the commonest, treatable cause.
The term 'Depression' is often conflated with a temporary low mood and feeling just 'out of sorts' while in medicine the word implies a disease which needs treatment. That is why some people prefer the term 'Clinical Depression'
The corollary also is that a large number of suicides are preventable.
It is the elephant in the room

@sisupalagarha@RitzyB94 Don't feet shame others... let them be them and be burden on the nation's healthcare resources. I wonder if their doctors would also suggest this- 2 times a day.
@SidhaantNangia During our orientation session in first year, one of our professeur asked why we want to become doctor, everyone replied, "because it's a noble profession" and just to stand out, I replied exactly this, that because I love dissection and want to touch the human organs legally.
@Prateek_Aaryan Bcz Reservat'n is not Poverty eliminat'n scheme rather a slow but effective way to increase representat'n of backward communities in this field.
You can see more people of general caste as doctors at higher rank (more than their proportion in the populat'n) than other categories.
@Deep_philo Turning a Sensory stimulation (Pain) into Motor function (Power) is called Reflex.
And our body does that involuntarily... You don't have to do anything. 👍
