Speaking of individualised fitness, here’s as contextual as it gets from Argentina training with Leo Messi.
A sprint-float-sprint style movement, over a shorter distance of approx 20-25m
Replicates that highly effective speed up, slow down, speed up again burst Messi loves.
Enjoyed writing for @statsports on the 2026 World Cup travel & environmental demands that teams may face at this summer’s tournament.

As teams from all over the world arrive in the United States, Mexico & Canada, anticipation is building for the 2026 World Cup.
For practitioners involved with each of the 48 teams, this is key preparation time.
Within this World Cup however, there is a little more to consider than usual.
From afternoon kick-offs in +30°, to competing at over 2,200m above sea level in Mexico City, to crossing multiple time zones between matches - teams will face a unique combination of environmental demands throughout the tournament.
The challenge for practitioners will be understanding how these stressors accumulate across the tournament and what that means for preparation, recovery and performance.
Having dealt with similar challenges year in year out within the MLS, FC Cincinnati Director of Sports Science @PhilKO1 explores some of the key considerations for practitioners ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup - read the full article below.
@LeonDutreuil Reconditioning players coming into camp for a major international tournament at the end of the season when players have been away from their clubs is important. The question is not should they train their skills, it’s how should they train their skills.
We think this is a very fair critique of the ‘viral’ French national team reconditioning session.
Within the context of collective vs individualised fitness work…
Ibrahima Konate probably doesn’t respond to a 10-minute block of interval runs in the same way as Malo Gusto.
Ultimately, the question becomes: how do you condition large groups of players with different physical profiles at the same time?
A short lead-in time with players arriving with different levels of fitness is difficult to manage.
@SimonBrundish Aye, everyone’s methods are slightly different. An important caveat is that, obviously, you don’t get the full details of the session. Just bits and pieces.
The French team have been posting fascinating insights from their pre-World Cup camp.
It’s focused mostly on reconditioning work led by their fitness coach, Cyril Moine.
Lots of aerobic work and interval running targeting different speed thresholds.
This one's big - Behind the Science with @ManUtd.
We chat to Head of Physical Performance, @Ed_Leng and Elite Support Specialist, Isabelle Brand about how our performance monitoring infrastructure supports the academy pathway at the club.
✔️The club's academy culture
✔️Physical profiling of academy players
✔️Handling player data when training with multiple squads
As well as the day to day management of training load, understanding physical demands and player preparation with the first team.

It goes without saying, PSG were taken the full distance on their way to becoming back-to-back European champions, quite literally.
Across the tournament's league and knockout stage campaign, they accumulated:
1,817.9km Total Distance
123.6km High Speed Running Distance
38.4km Sprint Distance
1,799 Total Sprints
Perhaps no better illustration of their approach than this - three players central to their playing style ranked top 3 in sprint distance across all three European competitions:
🥇 Achraf Hakimi - 5.8km
🥈 Nuno Mendes - 5.12km
🥉 Khvicha Kvaratskhelia - 4.56km
A remarkable achievement to go alongside a fifth consecutive Ligue 1 title in 2025/26.
A first defeat in the All Ireland Football Championship for @DubGAAOfficial against Louth since 1973.
Comhghairdeas, @louthgaa - proud to back the wee county all the way.
Huge congratulations to our long term partners PSG - a magnificent team, backed by incredible data science and sports science departments.
The work by the likes of Mathieu Lacome, David Pajon Moreno, Ben Simpson, and Maxime Coulerot should not go unnoticed.
Pretty special to have two long-standing clients competing in arguably the biggest game in club football this weekend.
It's also a fitting example of where football is at from a physical standpoint.
The game is faster, more demanding and more physically intense than ever before.
No better example than this final, with two teams whose success has been built not only on their ability to repeatedly operate at an incredibly high intensity, but to manage that effectively over the course of multiple seasons.
With that, the role of sports science has had to evolve and keep up with the game - something we've enjoyed having a front-row seat to.
This is a nice reflection from Arsenal's Tom Allen on how sports science has evolved alongside the modern game and what that actually means for practitioners at the highest level.
The unstoppable force vs the immovable object - promises to be a fascinating final no matter what.
What an achievement @CPFC - a first ever European trophy and a third major trophy in two seasons.
Massive congrats to the everyone at Palace, who we’ve had the pleasure of working with for around a decade now.
A brilliant job by Oliver Glasner and his staff to deliver yet another huge moment in Palace history.
Who else but JP💥
The same team and player (Stopira) who went viral earlier in the week for celebrating him being the first player in the club’s history to go to the World Cup, just scored the penalty to win the cup.
Football is wonderful.
2nd division side Torreense have just BEAT Sporting CP in the Portuguese Cup final and QUALIFIED for the Europa League.
With an 112th minute penalty…👏😮💨
22 years since Arsenal last lifted the Premier League trophy. In the six years since Mikel Arteta took the reins of the club, he has built a formidable culture. Relentless in their pursuit of the title and always pushing forward with new ideas.
Anyone doing something a little different will always get it in the neck, which Arteta and Arsenal have over the last few seasons, but ultimately it's culminated in success.
Cliched, but it's fantastic for us to work with such a progressive club like Arsenal and that they trust us and our technology to help drive them forward.
Enjoy the celebrations today @arsenal
