Across Ireland and beyond, we are seeing GAA clubs investing in GPS technology to push performance standards.
As the off-season begins for most, every club is asking the same question - where can we get better next year?
Even for clubs like Portumna GAA, with 4 All-Ireland Senior, 3 Connacht, and 6 Galway Senior titles, that drive is constant.
GPS helps bring that accountability and competitive edge right across the panel - holding every player to the same standard, from emerging talent to those who’ve done it all.
That’s the beauty of the GAA - 17 and 18 year olds in their first year of adult hurling lining out beside legends of the game, like in this case, Joe Canning - and the standards are the same for everyone.
Watch how Portumna are using Sonra Lite to build competition and accountability, mitigate injuries, and make every session measurable.
This time of the year is always fun receiving messages from @statsports users on Monday clubs all over the country 🍻
@LeitrimGaels winning their 1st ever county championship is definitely the highlight so far, after getting on board with us only this time last year 🏆🟣🟢
Today marks a landmark moment for our company.
We’re excited to announce that we have been acquired by @Sony – officially joining Sony's sports businesses.

Donegal GAA are right to raise it.
In elite sports, even a 1-day difference in recovery matters.
6-day turnarounds vs 7-day ones =
- Higher injury risk
- More fatigue carryover
- Less recovery time
Gaelic football isn’t immune to sports science.

🏆 Huge congrats to Cork and Kilkenny on claiming the Munster and Leinster titles!
Proud to support both teams as their GPS performance partner @statsports 💪
Could we be on course for a Rebels vs Cats All-Ireland Final? 👀

Oh to be a @louthgaa fan today!
The colour brought by both sets of fans was a real throwback 🇲🇨
Great to see @statsports to the forefront on such a magic day 🏅
An exciting, if predictable start to the football championship over the weekend 🏐
Great insight into the increased intensity of games from Donegal star Shane O'Donnell - https://t.co/NZ4e4i4mEN
Can the Donegal men go all the way this year? 🏆
@murfdogg I'm just looking at the physical game demands put on the players here to inform coaches. Of course, putting scores on the board is the name of the game whatever set of rules are used 🏆
After speaking with 3 inter-county setups, 2 noted a jump of 2km a game for their GK's over 2024.
The other with no change, showing it all comes down to how teams are using the 12v11.
Niall Morgan has hit 8km in one game!
Food for thought for club coaches out there 🏐
Goalkeepers total distance figures this year ⬆️📈
Club goalies, the jig is up, you'll all be wearing GPS units from now on 🏃♂️😉
Will pull together some key differences in demands with the new rules over the coming weeks to share with clubs. Stay tuned!
@GaelicStatsApp In general, before the new rules, intercounty goalies would have been sitting between 3-4km generally (not all would have been even wearing GPS as a result)
@keithwaters28 Will do a bit of digging for you Keith! Definitely seeing a big change in the zonal breakdowns with much higher %'s in the opposition half 🏃♂️ Different teams capitalising on the extra man more than others.
A quick look behind the curtain at our new GAA pitch maps🏐
Sprint map and zonal breakdown shown are for an inside forward who was one of the designated 'inside 3' for the majority of the game.
Any thoughts on how this new rule will affect the club player this season? 💭
Don't worry, with all these new shiny football rules, we haven't forgotten our hurling users heading into the 2025 season ⚾️
A great pic captured of @castlelyonsgaa man Niall O'Leary who is tracked with STATSports at both club and county level 📈

Asking all Clare Gaels and beyond to support Joe Slattery who sadly suffered life-changing injuries while training with his beloved club last week . Joe’s injuries will necessitate lifelong care and the attached GoFundMe page has been set up by the Slattery and Jones family to help support the adaptations Joe’s life will now need . Joe has represented Clare in underage hurling and football and we at Clare GAA keep him and his family in our thoughts . Please support by donating what you can and sharing the page .

Ahead of the 2025 #GAA season, we’ve linked up with one of the top fitness coaches in the sport, @Fionnoshea, to create a free 6-week off-season training program.
Designed for players at any level, across men’s football, ladies football, hurling, and camogie, the plan includes:
- Building the different energy systems
- Integrating speed into pre-season training
- skill work in conditioning drills
- the daily/weekly load across performance metrics
Below is a taste of how the daily schedule breaks down and what type of exercises are involved.
