In 1959, 17-year-old John Thomas raised the bar in the high jump as the first to clear 7' indoors before setting a world record 2.22m/7-3.75 in 1960. He moved to greater heights earning🥉 at the 1960 Olympics and 🥈 in 1964 using the straddle technique.
