@WinterSportsLaw Amazing….All 2025’s should have received the DSA Tag in the midst of the House Settlement uncertainty and now they want to prevent them from getting 5 for 5!
@AaronGogley @therealshenger @BenLangeIA Having the DSA designation would be very desirable because you won’t count against a team’s roster limit. If you hit the portal you’re at a significant advantage over an athlete without the tag. This creates an imbalance with members in the same class.
@therealshenger Do you think ‘25 H.S. athletes that “were recruited”, but never received and offer because coaches were waiting to see how the roster limits panned out should be given the DSA tag.
@JohnBoeheim @therealshenger This is key because certain football positions are recruited late (Specialists), which was the height of the settlement uncertainty. Anyone that gets the DSA tag will be more “valued” and have a recruiting advantage in the transfer portal.
@samcehrlich @therealshenger @KimRyan11953@DebbieE51612531@4Common_Cents I would forget about inviting students back or guaranteeing rosters spots that were lost. Place the DSA designation on every class member from the ‘26 class thru true Seniors and if you’re good enough to get a D1 roster spot you don’t count against the limit.
@therealshenger @DebbieE51612531@4Common_Cents Not being able to challenge the DSA status is a problem. There could possibly be members of a class that have a distinct advantage over members in the same class. Imagine a lower valued football position being recruited through the portal and 1 SA has the DSA status vs the other.
@sabo21 @therealshenger Why couldn’t they place the “DSA” designation on entire classes of athletes to avoid issues with what “recruited” really means?
@samcehrlich Many 2025 Student Athletes were afraid to object because they thought it would impact their recruiting. We were told only the SA could file the objection, not the parent.
@4Common_Cents@samcehrlich Additionally, a DSA designation should maybe apply to any 2025 SA who was being recruited or maybe the whole class? Many SA never received formal offers on paper, but were told verbally by coaches depending upon the settlement outcome they would receive an offer.
@CoryRG123 @NCAASettlement Right! There were athletes being recruited for the 2025 class, but no offer was made because they were waiting on the transfer portal entries to see what spots they had available due to the pending roster limits.
@mitchgilfillan The direction of athletic departments to coaching staff caused many 2025 recruits that would have otherwise finalized offers around signing day, to still await offers or commit to D2, D3, JUCO, or NAIA schools. I feel the 2025 class has a case for damages based on this info.
@mitchgilfillan This obviously takes a lot of time, money and effort. We were told by Coaches they were essentially in limbo of knowing who they could recruit and waiting to see who entered the transfer portal before making and offers.
