It is a time when the domestic order is on the brink of civil war, when there are irreconcilable differences over wealth and values, when there are win-at-all-cost fights for power, when there is a loss of truth in the media and a rise in propaganda, and when democratic orders are at risk of being disrupted because democracies require people to follow a system that resolves differences by following rules, which they are increasingly unwilling to do. It's a time that is both threatening and classic and is described comprehensively as Stage 5 of the Big Cycle in Chapter 5 of my book Principles for Dealing with the Changing World Order.

While all of this sounds crazy, I know from my survey result taken last fall that nearly 90% of the 43,000 Americans surveyed don't trust most politicians to render fair judgments. There are also numerous surveys showing that faith in institutions like the US Supreme Court are at all-time lows.

That is the setting for the battle that’s about to come. 2024 will be an interesting stress test year that will affect the whole world in big ways. #principleoftheday
