The due date for filing of Income Tax Returns (ITRs) for AY 2025-26, originally due on 31st July 2025, was extended to 15th September 2025.

The Central Board of Direct Taxes has decided to further extend the due date for filing these ITRs for AY 2025-26 from 15th September, 2025 to 16th September, 2025.

To enable changes in the utilities, the e- filing portal will remain in maintenance mode from 12:00 AM to 02:30AM on 16th September 2025.

Are you an insurance agent worried about that your insurance commission in FY 2024-25 has exceeded Rs. 20 lakhs and no GST registration has been taken ?

Usually we come across such taxpayers while filing their ITRs (when we check their 26AS) and they get panicked w.r.t. GST applicability!

Please note that:

✅ As per Notification No. 13/2017-Central Tax (Rate), services provided by an insurance agent to an insurer are subject to Reverse Charge Mechanism (RCM) under GST.
✅GST Registration is also not required (irrespective of ATO) if insurance agent provides exclusive supply of insurance service commission.
✅ However if the aggregate turnover >= ₹20 lakhs (₹10 lakh for special category states) & some other taxable supply of such person exists, then GST registration becomes mandatory.
✅ If such agent is GST registered, then even though the insurer (recipient) pays GST under RCM, the agent must report such insurance commission related B2B invoices in his GSTR-1 and tick the the “RCM applicable” column.
✅ Hence, no GST liability arises for the agent, but compliance with invoice reporting is essential.
