World-Honored One, we were like men who, from of old, have had no thought of seeking or desiring anything, but who suddenly hear this teaching and obtain what we have never had before.
We are like the poor son who wandered for many years in poverty and hardship, unaware that his father was a man of immeasurable wealth.
Now we know that we are truly the Buddha’s sons, and that all the treasures of the Buddha’s Dharma belong to us.

From Ego to Emptiness: Understanding Many Faces of the Self ☸️
In Buddhist teachings, what we call "Self" has layers, primarily - (1) The Gross Self and (2) The Subtle Self.
The Gross Self is easy to recognize. It's the loud voice that says, "This is mine. This is me. I want this. I don't want that." It shows up in irritation when someone criticizes us, pride when we are praised, or fear when we feel threatened. It feels solid, reactive, and protective and we are all familiar with this as our "Ego".
The Subtle Self is more refined. It doesn't react loudly, but it quietly positions itself as the Observer. For example, even when anger fades and the Mind becomes calm, there can still be a faint sense of one "Watching" it all - as in, "(I) am aware. (I) am the Witness. (I) am the one who is Mindful."
The Subtle Self feels spacious and mature, almost spiritual. Yet there remains a quiet center point, a subtle owner of the experience, standing just behind the thoughts, claiming the role of the Watcher.
Buddhism invites us to look carefully at both. And to understand them. As Awareness deepens, even the Subtle sense of ownership softens. What remains is simple presence, pure Awareness unfolding without the weight of constant self-reference.
Freedom begins not by rejecting the Self, but by seeing how gently it is constructed, moment by moment. 🙏

The Heavy Bag
A worried monk, Ananda, asked the Buddha how to stop carrying the heavy weight of worry.
The Buddha pointed to a fallen leaf. "Pick it up."
Ananda held the single, weightless leaf. "It's nothing, Master."
"Precisely," the Buddha replied. "Your worries are only heavy because you insist on carrying every leaf—the past ones you can't change, and the future ones you can't yet bear. Only hold the leaf in your hand right now."
Ananda set the single leaf down, understanding that lightness comes from living only in the present moment.

From the beginningless past on forward to the present, beings have long drifted along and turned about in saṃsāra, and yet still have not fully understood the genuine Dharma. It is because of this that the buddhas have appeared in the world. ~avatamsak sutra
High above the clouds in Sri Lanka stands Sri Pada —
a mountain where the Buddha’s footprint rests.
Each step up is a prayer, each breath a blessing.
For centuries, hearts have climbed with hope and faith. 🌄🙏

"A true friend does not forsake you in times of trouble. A true friend does not abandon you in misfortune. A true friend reveals your virtues and protects you from danger."
~Buddha - Sigalavoda Sutta
Hey Mara, because of my wish for this Invincible Throne, there was no
charity (dana) which I have not given; no morality (sila) which I have not
observed; no austerity (dukkara) which I have not practised throughout many
existences in many worlds.
"One should cherish parents, respect teachers, be faithful to one’s spouse, treat friends with kindness, care for servants and employees, and honor religious guides."
