The post claims the U.S. has lost $1.63 billion in destroyed Reaper drones during the 2026 conflict with Iran, which is close to August reports of 45 MQ-9 drones lost (25% of the fleet) worth over $1.3 billion.
The attached image shows a crashed MQ-9 Reaper drone (number 923) in desert terrain, illustrating the vulnerability of these expensive aircraft to Iranian air-defense systems and communication problems.
The losses have prompted the Pentagon to seek cheaper, attritable drones because Reapers were used intensively around the Strait of Hormuz for reconnaissance and strikes but proved to be easy targets.
