On March 11, Antonio Rüdiger posted a photo of himself on a prayer mat, pointing the index finger of his right hand towards the sky with a greeting for Ramadan

On Sunday, journalist Julian Reichelt wrote on X that Rüdiger's gesture was 'an Islamist salute' and that the Protection of the Constitution calls this gesture the "IS finger" and considers the index finger to be a clear sign of Islamism

On Monday, both Rüdiger and the DFB reacted. The player filed a criminal complaint against Reichelt to the Berlin public prosecutor's office for 'insult, defamation and sedition' - the DFB also filed a complaint and reported Reichelt's tweet to the public prosecutor's office as 'hate speech'

The Federal Ministry of the Interior said when contacted by that "the 'Tawheed' finger is to be understood as a confession of faith and is therefore classified as unproblematic with regard to public safety. That applies regardless of the fact that Islamist groups misuse this symbol for their own purposes' @BILD via @iMiaSanMia
