Chairman of STGlobal, TiSPACE & ATSpace, PhD in aerospace engr from U of Kansas. Was: NASA/MSFC, NSPO. We are building cost-competitive hybrid rocket LVs.
Rocket technical capabilities of private space launch development in Taiwan to date include complete qualification of a propulsion system with 13 tons thrust for 70 sec and a successful rocket launch in South Australia reaching Mach 4.2 and more than 50 km altitude. The next milestone will be 300 sec burn time capable and reaching 300 km altitude — a 300-square technical goal.
That’s great, Mr. Fox Hsiao! You can reach me at [email protected]. Taiwan’s private space launch entrepreneurs are crucial for Taiwan to reach the capability of launching into orbit in a timely fashion because the world is moving so fast passing by. Beyond 2030, it will be all too late to make any business sense.
This kind of technical objectives using hybrid rocket designs had been achieved 14 years ago by university teams. So, what kind of progress can be claimed by TASA? At most, it’s a repeat of what had been done. And, TASA’s current annual budget is NT$5.8B. With that kind of budget, a lot more technical advances should be made.
