Truly working together as a team is what creates the best outcomes for patients and the communities we serve.
Swisscross in Erbil and Kabul understand that concept and with our partners are making huge strides in providing life-changing surgery and care.

Our patients are why we are dedicated to life-changing surgery.

Care has no side. The war ends; the injury doesn’t. And surgery starts long before the OR.
Swisscross treats every patient regardless of citizenship, status or culture, working with local partners in #Erbil and #Kabul.

September at Swisscross: two missions, one shared purpose. In #Kabul & #Erbil, our international volunteers and local partners came together to screen, operate and care for patients in need. Every mission strengthens the local teams and systems that will carry this care forward.

[SWISSCROSS @SWISSCROSS]

What a week and what a team! To all medical professionals who work in Erbil and who travelled for the Sept Humanitarian Mission- thank you for your commitment and leadership.
Thank you #Erbil - see you in November! #reconstructivesurgery #humanitarianmission

Behind every mission: a surgeon who said yes, a local team learning side by side, and volunteers already planning their return. That’s the Swisscross team.

How lasting change happens: not through one-off interventions, but through partnerships that leave local systems stronger than we found them.

Surgery is the first step. For many of our patients, the hard work begins in the weeks after — relearning to stand, to walk, to trust the body again. Our rehabilitation partners pair reconstructive surgery with physiotherapy, so recovery doesn’t stop at the operating room door.

[SWISSCROSS @SWISSCROSS]

Every journey starts with someone who sees you. Local hospitals & community partners on the ground in #Erbil and #Kabul identify patients living with long-neglected injuries from conflict — and open the door to care. No case too complex, no injury too old. #reconstructivesurgery

Hope in Action: Afghanistan 🇦🇫

In Kabul, humanitarian surgery is giving families more than treatment — it’s giving them a future worth rebuilding.

Humanitarian medicine is one of the most challenging and rewarding areas of medicine. We are grateful & thankful to all our teams, volunteers and partners who make it possible for vulnerable communities to access life-changing surgery.

From Afghanistan to Kurdistan, our work is rooted in the communities we serve.

Swisscross works alongside local surgeons, medical professionals and healthcare partners—combining specialist expertise with local knowledge to deliver reconstructive surgery where it is needed most.

[SWISSCROSS @SWISSCROSS]

A surgery can change a life. In conflict zones, it often never happens. Burns that heal wrong. Hands that freeze shut. Kids who stop going to school.
Swisscross closes that gap — our teams operate, then train local staff so care doesn’t stop when we leave.
#ReconstructiveSurgery

[SWISSCROSS @SWISSCROSS]

The measure of a good mission isn’t just how many surgeries we perform- it’s how our partners do after we’ve gone.
Training is slower than surgery. But it’s the difference between a country that depends on outside help forever and one that doesn’t have to. #Mentorship #Training

[SWISSCROSS @SWISSCROSS]

Reconstructive surgery doesn’t pause when the headlines do.
In #Afghanistan every mission rotation means navigating logistics most surgical teams never have to think about. It means a patient who waited years for a surgery finally having the chance to live without disability.

[SWISSCROSS @SWISSCROSS]

Behind every humanitarian mission is a remarkable team of volunteers giving their time, expertise and compassion to restore lives.

At Swisscross, humanitarian surgery goes beyond the operating theatre. Through reconstructive surgery, local capacity building, and long-term partnerships, we help individuals recover from the effects of conflict, while strengthening healthcare systems for the future.

[Barzani Charity Foundation @BarzaniCF]

Under the guidance and supervision of the Office of Mala Mustafa Barzani, the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the continuation of the Centre of Excellence for Complex Care Project in Kurdistan has been renewed.
The @SWISSCROSS Foundation established the Centre of Excellence for Complex Care (CECC) in Erbil to provide reconstructive and disability-reversing surgeries for refugees, internally displaced persons (IDPs), and vulnerable locals suffering from war injuries, severe burns, and congenital conditions

When we look at the inaccessibility of surgery in numbers, it can feel insurmountable. At Swisscross we focus on solutions, on bringing accessibility to patients and on those most in need.
