“If you’re not angry, you’re either a stone, or you’re too sick to be angry. You should be angry. You must not be bitter. Bitterness is like cancer. It eats upon the host. It doesn’t do anything to the object of its displeasure. So use that anger, yes. You write it. You paint it.

National Read Across America Day
March 2 is National Read Across America Day, a day to celebrate our favorite activity. The day was established by the National Education Association (NEA) in 1998 to help get kids excited about reading.

[Student Working Professionals @SWP_stars]

The day occurs each year on the birthday of beloved children’s book author Dr. Seuss, so a perfect way to celebrate is to don a Seussian hat and read one his famous tales, like One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish.

Mardi Gras

It’s Mardi Gras time, arguably one the best celebrations in the world. It stretches from Twelfth Night (the last night of Christmas) all the way until Ash Wednesday.

[Student Working Professionals @SWP_stars]

Mardi Gras is French for “Fat Tuesday” to reflect the practice of eating rich, fatty foods before the ritual fasting of the Lenten season. It’s also a time to bring out those colorful beads and masks and party!

Libraries and bookstores — not to mention online repositories and booksellers — are positively overflowing with amazing works of literature, history, and biography. Find a book about a piece of black history that you were previously unaware of.

Contact your elected official
One of the best ways to get the ball rolling toward a better society is by contacting members of Congress. Ask them what they have planned and what specific legislative actions they plan to take to ensure that your community never backtracks.
